Ray
Liotta or Barney Reed?
|
||
| Glueless: I saw Ray Liotta played against Shao Yu at the nationals and he destroyed himself 1-11 by whiffing everything on the first game. I then saw him got yellow-carded by Azmy on the second game. I also saw him getting into some argument with Cheng Ying Hua before the match (Cheng Ying Hua was preparing to coach Shao Yu, I think) and he was summarily dismissed by Cheng Ying Hua as well. | ||
I thought he had a very good chance of winning if he could just keep his head together. Also, all his loops appeared to be predictable. From the tape, it seems that he looped strictly into David's forehand or backhand, mostly forehand. I rarely saw any loops go into the middle. Actually, one time he does a backhand loop into the middle and gets the point easily. But I guess there was so much noise inside of his own head that he didn't notice. It was the last shot into the middle that I saw. I think if Barney really wants to improve now he needs psychological help. I would recommend a sports psychologist. Maybe get some Tony Robbins tapes. It's embarrassingly obvious that he needs to work on this. I know people 1000 rating points less than him that have a superior mental game. Marco |

Sean P. O'Neill: Many say that table tennis is at least 80% mental. If
you constantly throw your paddle in disguest, bang it on the table, pull
your pants down clearly you are not in control of your thoughts or
emotions.
If you are not in control of your thoughts or emotions you are unlikely to beat better players. Yes, you can beat worse players but upsetting better players will be very difficult unless they have a meltdown. This just proves the point that good mental coaching doesn't start at 2500 but at age 10 when the habits are developed and ingrained into the foundation. Have you ever seen Cheng get pissed off at himself when he plays? He never plays more than one opponent at a time. That in my mind is the reason he can play 2700+ without much practice. Sean P. Barney seems to never play the middle. I find that so odd that someone playing as long as him never exploits the middle. http://forums.about.com/ab-tabletennis/messages?msg=17060.8 That was a very intersting match. I really wish Barney would have won that match. David was playing very safe and blocking mostly to the middle. The next big match David and Barney play, I think barney will win. |
