Hey, is that a young Waldner at the end of Video #4? Wow, I think he must be 16-17 in this video!

I haven't watched the video, but perhaps the footage you're referring to was from the 1982 European Championships where 16-year-old Waldner reached the MS final (he lost to Applegren). Later that year Waldner won his first international tournament. It was in Seoul, Korea and his opponent in the final was...Eric Boggan! In 1983 Waldner won the Scandanavian Open.

Did Waldner play in the 81 Worlds? I think this footage might actually end in 81 and most the footage is from World events.

Waldner first played in the World Championships in 1983. His first World Cup appearance was also that year and, just as in the '82 European Championships, Waldner lost to Appelgren in the final.

It's the 37th Worlds Championship and Waldner is playing a Chinese team member. I'm trying to listen for his name.

I think Waldner is playing Cai Zhenhua in the 37th Worlds.

Waldner played both Cai Zhenhua and Jiang Jialiang in the team final of the 1983 Worlds. Of course Cai was a lefty shakehands player (with anit on one side) while Jiang was a pips out penholder.

If I recall correctly, that was the first game (won by Cai, who went on to win the second game fairly easily). Jiang beat Waldner in a close 2-1 match.

That was the score of the second game.

Here are a couple photos from the match:

I also placed a video of just that match on the webpage.

I still haven't watched the video (I'll get around to it one of these years!), but I did some research and Waldner's profile on the Swedish TT Association website has Waldner losing 28-30, 16-21:

I watched the end a little closer with this message in mind.

The video starts with the two warming up, but this is the only 17 minute game that is shown.

The video ends with the 28-30 score game and displays a 2:0 match win for Cai Zhenhua.

The Citizen Scoreboard lights up 1 dot to indicate this was just the first game however.

It sounds like the website has the facts correct.
